Are users afraid of Google? No way!
Author:

November has been a busy month for Google. New initiatives and tools have been launched, and with all that Google is now heading far and wide. Users who avail of various tools and services offered by Google have reasons to feel happy. Not only are there more options (

google.com/base/default">Google Base, Personalized Search, Local Search, etc.), some of them, considering that they're free, are truly top-class. Like Google Analytics.

Are all users happy? The answer is 'no', if you look at this article by Kevin Kelleher. Kevin argues rightly that Google's ambition is to 'organize the world's information'. Nothing bad there. But Kevin turns ominous when he says that Google's 'ever-expanding agenda' is in collision course with every IT company. Now, is that bad? Let's examine.

Consider a football field, where in place of 2 teams, several teams (of smaller composition) are playing. Instead of scoring goals, points are awarded to whichever team possesses the football for a given length of time. The team that has maximum possession of ball emerges winner.

The game is therefore about how best the football is kept in possession. A team that has skill to rotate the ball among its members, ability to outmaneuver the opponents, and making prompt and best use of empty spaces in the field, will be the one to win the game. Purely on merit, who do you think spectators will support? The best team of course. On top
